So, I Was Thinking...
At least once a week, one of us looks at the other and says, "So...I was thinking."
It's become a bit of a tradition around here. Sometimes it's a new flower we want to try. Sometimes it's a better way to do something on the farm. Sometimes it's a completely random idea that turns into a two-hour conversation. More often than not, it's farm related. And more often than not, the other person says, "I was thinking the same thing." That's exactly how our Bloom Bags came to be.
A few months ago, after a farmers market, we found ourselves having another one of those conversations. We'd heard so many people mention they wished they had something to carry their bouquet in while they finished shopping. We looked at each other and, almost at the same time..."So...I was thinking."
When we got home, we grabbed paper and started sketching. Then we cut out a pattern.
Then we decided we didn't like that pattern. So we drew another one. And another.
After plenty of trial and error (and a few moments of wondering if we had completely lost our minds), we finally landed on the design that felt just right.

Then came the question... Were we actually going to do this?
We went back and forth for a while until one evening we happened to be wandering through the craft store. The sewing machines were on sale. We took that as our sign. Did we have to replace said sewing machine? We did.

Originally, we told ourselves we'd make four bags. Just four. HAHAHA.
Apparently, shopping for fabric is a hobby we didn't know we needed.
What started as four bags quickly turned into choosing seasonal collections, discovering incredibly talented fabric artists, and dreaming about all the prints we wanted to bring to the farm. We decided early on that we'd keep things seasonal and produce limited quantities of each print. That means once a fabric is gone, it's usually gone for the season, making each collection a little unique.

Watching these come to life has been one of the most rewarding projects we've taken on. At our most recent market, we were photographing the bags, talking with customers about them, and before we knew it, people were carrying them around the market. Seeing your excitement made all those late nights, pattern revisions, and fabric decisions completely worth it.

When it's too hot or too wet to work in the field, we move indoors. I cut all of the fabric and prep each bag for assembly. Rick takes over at the sewing machine and brings everything together. Then we inspect every bag together before photographing them and getting them ready for their new homes. It's become one of our favorite ways to spend an afternoon.

Our Summer Collection is officially here, and we're already counting down the days until we can share our fall, Halloween, and winter prints. We also have a few coordinating accessories in the works and trust me...we're just as excited about those as we are the bags themselves.

Thanks for giving us these ideas and the ability create for you!

Absolutely love how these came together. As a sewist myself, buying fabric is definitely its own hobby so be careful 🤣
